Maricela Duran

Maricela Duran

Crochet Master &
Administrative Assistant
for Behavior Respite in Action

Crocheting is a craft that is all about interlocking looped stiches formed with a single thread into something creative and beautiful . . . and in her personal life Maricela is a Crochet Master. She picked up crocheting during the pandemic when other activities became very limited. She ended up loving it and now she creates custom plushies and baby blankets and sells them through her small business. It has been said that a crocheted piece is the lovely manifestation of a thought . . . expressed through hand, heart, hook and yarn. No wonder crocheting has become a passion for Maricela.

Maricela is a Master in her professional life, too. Working as an Administrative Assistant for Behavior Respite in Action (BRIA) in our Long Beach office, she fills an essential role as the face of the organization as she represents BRIA to clients and potential clients, employees and potential employees, and others who call or visit the office. In fact, all those in the role of Administrative Assistant with BRIA are critical to the success of our organization, and they make a difference in the lives of others every day.

As part of their responsibilities, all our BRIA Administrative Assistants communicate with their local Regional Center to secure authorizations for the important respite, daycare and personal attendant services we provide to our clients. Additionally, they make sure that reports required by the Regional Center are prepared accurately and submitted on time. These dedicated professionals interlock all the looped stitches that make up the local BRIA office operations into something creative and beautiful . . . just like Maricela interlocks her looped stitches when she crochets.

Maricela started her professional journey with BRIA working part time as a Direct Support Professional. Transitioning into her position as Administrative Assistant allowed her to move into a full time office-based role. Working with BRIA as an Administrative Assistant is often an early step on the path to a rewarding career with us. All our BRIA Regional Administrative Coordinators started off as Administrative Assistants and grew into their new role through the help and support of their managers and others. Some of our BRIA Staffing Coordinators and Program Coordinators started off as Administrative Assistants, too.

Wherever you are at in your professional journey, we are eager to help take you where you want to go.

Ivette Vazquez

Ivette Munoz Vazquez

Super Mom | Dance Mom &
Behavior Intervention Developer (BID)
for California Psychcare - LAUSD

Ivette is super-duper! She is an amazing mother of three young children, and along with managing everything in her personal life that comes with being a devoted mom, she also makes sure her daughters are always ready for their dance classes and rehearsals. She never misses a competition! Ivette demonstrates this same dedication in her professional life through her work as a Behavior Intervention Developer (BID) working with California Psychcare’ s school department and serving her Los Angeles Unified School District clients. Ivette manages to expertly balance her personal and professional life – while always maintaining a very calm demeanor.

Services provided through our school department are similar to those provided in-home or in-clinic, but school-based services are provided in the classroom to students impacted by autism and similar developmental disabilities. This approach is beneficial because it provides the opportunity for the individual receiving therapy to participate in a normal school environment – often with their peers or siblings – while receiving the support they need to effectively participate in classroom-based instruction.

All our BIDs fill a very special role in our school-based program. These professionals design each child’s customized plan, they monitor program delivery, and they track progress toward each child’s established goals. BIDs also supervise the Behavior Intervention Implementation (BII) professionals who provide services in the classroom every day. Helping students access their curriculum is very important to the long-term success of these special clients, and our teammates – who we refer to as our partners –providing this support through our school-based program make a huge positive difference in the lives of those they serve.

Like most of our BIDs, Ivette has grown with us professionally during her time with us. She started in our school department in 2015 as a BII, and since her start she’s completed her master’s degree and has been promoted into her current role as BID. We’re glad we’ve had the opportunity to support her along her professional path.

Wherever you are at in your professional journey, we are eager to help take you where you want to go.

Keidy Castro

Keidy Castro

Jewelry Designer &
Department Manager
for Behavior Respite in Action

Keidy is gold filled – in every way. In her personal life, Keidy owns a small business where she handmakes, curates and sells gold filled jewelry. In her professional life, Keidy shows her heart of gold every day through her work as a Department Manager for Behavior Respite in Action in our Long Beach office.

Behavior Respite in Action provides traditional and specialized respite, daycare, and attendant care services to individuals of all ages who are impacted by autism or similar developmental disabilities. Services are provided in the individual’s natural environment and ensure safety and active engagement while offering a break or support for parents and caregivers. It’s obvious that people who work for Behavior Respite in Action must have hearts of gold to do this important work.

Like all Department Managers, Keidy works as a member of the clinical team and provides direct care and support for her clients. But the role of Department Manager extends beyond that. As the Manager for her location, she also supervises the entire clinical and administrative staff assigned to her location – all while overseeing all aspects of service delivery to ensure quality and consistency for every client receiving care through her site.

It’s no surprise that everyone who works for Behavior Respite in Action makes a difference in the lives of others every day. They make a positive impact in the lives of our clients and their client’s family members. Our Department Managers make a difference in the lives of their colleagues, too, as they provide formal training, coaching, and mentoring to ensure everyone is prepared and positioned for success in whatever role they fill in the organization.

Typically, our Department Managers start off as Direct Support Professionals – an entry level position within the Behavior Respite in Action organization – and through the support and guidance they receive along the way, they can advance into this leadership role in our organization. They’ve grown with us and are definitely committed to paying it forward.

Wherever you are at in your professional journey, we are eager to help take you where you want to go.

Andres Leon

Andres Leon

Gifted Abstract Artist &
Program Coordinator
for California Psychcare

Andres loves art and it’s a passion in his personal life. His focus is abstract art, and he truly enjoys recreating images he likes and then making them his own. He took his first art class when he was 8 years old, and he’s been at it ever since.

Andres’ love for art spills over into his professional life in his work as a Program Coordinator with California Psychcare in our Commerce office. You can sometimes find him creating sidewalk or playground chalk art as an activity with his clients. He has discovered that art helps him connect with the kiddos he serves, and he takes advantage of every opportunity to use art in the programs he develops and conducts.

The importance of the role of Program Coordinator at California Psychcare cannot be understated. These middle tier supervisors are dedicated ABA professionals who have completed their bachelor’s degree and have a few years experience working in the field. Most are either enrolled in a master’s program or have completed their master’s level training and are on the path toward becoming Board-Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs). We support them on this journey in many ways – including providing 1500+ hours of no cost supervised fieldwork hours required for the BCBA credential and assisting with test preparation materials and coaching.

Program Coordinators provide direct care to their clients, all while overseeing and mentoring a team of Behavioral Interventionists that also deliver direct care. They work under the direction of a BCBA, and the hands-on experience they gain enables them to be even more valuable to their clients and their teammates. These are hardworking, dedicated people who make a difference in the lives of others while helping their teammates do the same.

Wherever you are at in your professional journey, we are eager to help take you where you want to go.

Melissa Ruelas

Melissa Ruelas

Homemade Sweet Treats Entrepreneur
& Direct Support Professional
for Behavior Respite in Action

Melissa’s homemade treats are SWEET . . . and she’s turned her passion into a successful side business. Learning from her grandmother and making baked goods and other tasty morsels for family and friends over the years, she eventually posted photos of her creations on social media. Requests for cakes and other goodies came flooding in . . . and her side business was born. Now, making sweet treats is what Melissa loves to do in her personal life.

When she’s not busy baking, Melissa is busy with her other passion – working as a Direct Support Professional with Behavior Respite in Action in our Monterey Park office. In this role, she provides 1:1 in-home respite care to individuals impacted by autism and other developmental disabilities.

All our Direct Support Professionals provide parents and other primary caregivers with a temporary break from the constant care required by a family member with special needs. Caring for a special needs individual can be very challenging, and these challenges can become overwhelming. That’s where our amazing Direct Support Professionals come in.

These dedicated professionals give parents and caregivers time away from their caregiving responsibilities so they can return rested and refreshed. In some situations, these professionals may also provide an extra layer of support to parents and others. This is especially important for families who may be dealing with more aggressive behaviors exhibited by their loved one.

We salute Melissa – and all those in the role of Direct Support Professional across our organization – for making such a significant difference in the lives of others.

Becoming a Direct Support Professional and working with Behavior Respite in Action can be the first step toward an amazing and rewarding career in healthcare! Cindy Villasana

Cindy Villasana

Outdoor Enthusiast &
Staffing Coordinator
for California Psychcare

Cindy really enjoys being out in nature, and spending time hiking, paddleboarding, and engaging in outdoor activities is what makes her tick. She’s also got a bit of an artist in her, as wood burning is another hobby she enjoys. This is who Cindy is personally. On the professional side, Cindy works as a Staffing Coordinator for California Psychcare, working out of our San Luis Obispo office.

Like all Staffing Coordinators in our organization, Cindy is an essential link between our clients who receive ABA-based behavioral health treatment services from us and our clinical services teammates who provide this care. Performing a very critical function in our organization, all our Staffing Coordinators must anticipate future staffing needs for their office, and they must create and manage staff schedules that effectively align our clients’ need for services with staff availability. At the end of the day, these individuals make sure our clients’ needs are met.

In addition to their scheduling duties, Staffing Coordinators are involved in the recruiting and hiring of new teammates. They collaborate with their partners from recruiting and onboarding to help shepherd their new colleagues through our established processes as they join our organization. Paulette Torres

Paulette Torres

Sergeant for the California Army National Guard &
Administrative Manager
for California Psychcare

Paulette is definitely one of a kind, and serving others is at the core of who she is. This is obvious in her personal life as she serves our nation as a member of the Army National Guard. She unselfishly took time away from her family, friends and teammates during a 2-month deployment to Washington, DC early last year – to protect our Capitol after the events on January 6th.

Paulette serves others in her professional life, too. She’s been a part of our organization for the past seven years, joining our company as an Administrative Assistant for California Psychcare in our Camarillo office. During her tenure with California Psychcare, she continued to gain experience in her roles as Staffing Coordinator, Office Manager, and Regional Coordinator.

Now, in her role as Administrative Manager, she is a guiding light for all members of our administrative team. Let’s face it … our administrative professionals are the backbone of our organization, and without them, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do every day. Paulette is involved in the hiring and training of administrative teammates across the organization, and she supports their on-going professional development. She makes sure this team has what they need to succeed in their job.

At the end of the day, Paulette makes sure our administrative operations run smoothly. She collaborates with her administrative teammates and leaders of our clinical teams to drive toward a common goal – helping individuals and their families impacted by autism gain access to the critical, high-quality care they need and deserve. Through all she does, Paulette makes a significant difference in the lives of others – AND she helps her administrative teammates make a difference as well.

Wherever you are at in your professional journey, we are committed to your continued growth and success and are eager to help take you where you want to go.
