My Child Has Been Diagnosed with Autism – How Can I Access Care?
By Jessica Robles, MS, BCBA – Vice President of Clinical Operations
If you’re unsure how to access care after your child receives an autism diagnosis, you’re not alone. You may feel confused and unsure of where to start. Understanding the steps to accessing care can help you move forward with confidence.
Consult an ABA Provider
Contact your health plan to identify an ABA-based therapy provider that is in-network. With a diagnosis, your health plan may cover the full cost of ABA-based therapy.
An ABA-based therapy provider, like 360 Behavioral Health, will be able to help you through the process of signing up for ABA-based therapy services for your child and work with you and your health plan on obtaining authorization.
Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA)
Your chosen ABA provider will work with you and your family to schedule your child’s assessment. During this assessment, a Board-Certified Behavioral Analyst (BCBA) will observe your child while they interact with others and within different environments. Through this assessment, the assigned BCBA will develop a personalized treatment plan for your child.
Monitor & Adjust
Throughout your child’s treatment, your ABA provider may provide ongoing support by:
- Monitoring progress regularly and adjusting the treatment plan as needed
- Assisting with reauthorization, as needed, to ensure your child’s care is uninterrupted
- Offering resources & guidance
